Dating advice circa 1938

I was browsing Erika Lust’s twitter feed and came across this link featuring newspaper dating advice from 1938. Three of my favorites:

Photo of woman and man dancing.

Caption says, “CARELESS WOMEN never appeal to gentlemen. Don’t talk while dancing, for when a man dances he wants to dance”

Photo of woman and man sitting at booth; woman is smiling and talking to waiter. Man looks annoyed.

Caption says, “DON’T BE FAMILIAR with the headwaiter talking about the fun you had with someone else another time. Men deserve, desire your entire attention”

Photo of woman and man sitting at booth; woman is looking down and holding her shirt, while man looks on with bored expression.

Caption says, “DON’T TALK ABOUT CLOTHES or try to describe your new gown to a man. Please flatter your date by talking about the things he wants to talk about”

Yikes.

The sad/scary thing is that you can still easily find dating advice like this today.
