Hunger Strike at Port Isabel, TX Immigration Detention Center

I don’t have too much information yet, but detainees at the Port Isabel, TX immigration detention center recently began an indefinite hunger strike in an attempt to bring attention to their plight; it the second such strike at that detention center in less than a year.

There’s a short radio clip about it at FSRN.

My Fiancee is at Port Isabel Detention Center, he is also on a hunger strike. He said the detainees are tired of being mistreated and living like animals. They want justice! They get served cold food that half the time is raw. Every single detainee in the facility only sees ONE judge while going to court. Sometimes they wait for hours on their day of court to see the judge. Tell me how can ONE judge see about 500 detainees?? Seriously?? He wants justice and he wants to come home to his family. We have a 7 month old little girl together and when he was taken away from us she was only 2 months. Why does the government think they can mistreat detainees the way they do? And they are holding him on a silly charge. Be serious now, what if the tables were turned? YOUR wife or husband was locked up, mistreated and facing deportation, while you had a little one at home how would you feel?? HAVE A HEART!
