Contrary to what the title would have you believe, Hirshman is actually arguing that women have been “swallowing” anti-reproductive rights legislation for the past three decades:
Maybe women think the Stupak amendment is just one of those awful things that ultimately won’t come to pass. Just be good girls and don’t make a fuss and we’ll water it down in the final bill. Women’s activism: the audacity of swallowing.
I honestly don’t know if that makes me feel better about the headline, or more disgusted.
