Roman Polanski continues to get the love of his fellow directors. There’s yet another petition circling at the Cannes Film Festival calling for the Swiss to disregard everything they are being told by the Americans regarding Polanski’s case.
So far, this petition has been signed by Jean-Luc Godard, Mathieu Amalric, Xavier Beauvois, Agnès Varda, Bertrand Tavernier, Olivier Assayas, JeanStéphane Bron, Patricio Guzmán, Jean-Paul Civeyrac, Katell Quillévéré, Cristi Puiu.
Le sigh. Seeing Agnès Varda’s name on that list is bringing back the crushing memories of seeing Jeremy Irons, Tilda Swinton, and Wes Anderson on the Hollywood petition that circulated when Polanski was first arrested. Ugh.
