As my MA is in Women’s History, the nerd in me is trés excited about the March lecture series at South Texas College. I fully intend to beg for those nights off!
All lectures take place at 7 p.m. at the STC Library’s Rainbow Room (3201 W. Pecan Blvd.) unless otherwise noted:
- March 3 – The Revolutionary Borderland: Mexican Women’s Labor & Activism by Sonia Hernandez, asst. professor at UTPA
- March 4 – The Feminization of Poverty in Historical Perspective by Kate Transchel, prof. at CSU-Chico
- March 9 – Alborada: How the Media Produces Stereotypes of Mothers by Petra Guerra, asst. professor at UTPA
- March 11 – STC instructor Cassie Rincones will moderate a panel discussion on the history of women in politics in the Rio Grande Valley that will include Hidalgo County Treasurer Norma G. Garcia and state Rep. Veronica Gonzales
- March 11 (10 a.m.) – Workshop on dating violence by Mujeres Unidas, Hidalgo County’s only women’s shelter
