Friday Funny: Sarah Palin’s Farewell Speech, As Told By William Shatner

I was dying to post this first thing Tuesday, but decided to hold off for today’s Friday Funny.  Earlier this week, Conan O’Brien had William Shatner come on air to perform Palin’s farewell speech in poetic form.  I love me some Shatner!

Hispanics Keep Out

For the moment, let’s set aside the fact that this woman is using the term “Hispanic” (*shudder*), and let’s agree that she is perfectly within her first amendment rights to say/post whatever the hell she wants on her property, yes?

Her sign is still an echo of these moments in history.  The fact that this type blatant racism still exists in post-racial America does not shock or surprise me.  The sad thing is, look how perfectly she embodies the results of anti-immigrant paranoia and racism.

This woman is a living example just how synonymous Hispanic “Latin@” has become with “illegal.”  She doesn’t care that her sign upsets some people, because she’s “upset about [Latin@s] coming over here illegally, too.” She goes on to emphatically say, “This is our privilege as an American [sic] to protect our property.  This is our property.”  When the reporter asks her why she doesn’t just put up a general KEEP OUT sign, the woman again is emphatic in saying that she doesn’t want to keep everybody out, just certain people.
